This landmark report, developed under the Power of Pride Alliance, offers one of the most comprehensive examinations to date of how LGBTIQ+ community-based organizations (CBOs) in Asia and Africa navigate hostile socio-political environments, resource scarcity, and increasing anti-rights movements. Drawing from a mixed-methods study involving 61 participants across both regions, the report analyzes how organizations foster inclusive leadership, work sustainably, and prepare for escalating socio-political risks.
Grounded in lived realities, the research highlights the resilience of LGBTIQ+ movements: from building participatory leadership models and sustaining activist well-being, to confronting criminalization, surveillance, and shrinking civic space. It also documents the innovative strategies CBOs use to mobilize resources, strengthen partnerships, monitor threats, and protect their communities under intensifying repression.
The report offers practical recommendations—ranging from strengthening accountability mechanisms to improving collective care, enhancing safety and security systems, and expanding equitable access to resources—to help organizations thrive despite adversity.
This publication serves as a critical resource for LGBTIQ+ organizations, allies, donors, and policymakers committed to advancing equality, strengthening movements, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of LGBTIQ-led work across Asia and Africa.
