Call for Applications: Communications Intern (Aug 2021)
ILGA Asia is looking for a full-time intern to assist our communication works. The intern will report directly to the Communications Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for those who want to gain first-hand experience and knowledge of raising awareness on LGBTI issues through communications, and to contribute to the Asian LGBTI and human rights movement.

Background
ILGA Asia is the Asian Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, representing East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Asia. The Region was first established in Mumbai in 2002. Our vision is a world where Asia is a safe place for all, where all can live in freedom and equality, be properly informed in the nature of sexual orientation and gender identity & expression and sex characteristic (SOGIESC) rights, have access to justice, and diversity is respected.
Our missions are:
To promote universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the elimination of all forms of discrimination and stigmatization based on SOGIESC in Asia and including the specific provisions of the UN conventions and covenants specified in the Constitution of ILGA;
To work for the equality of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression and sex characteristic, as well as liberation from all forms of discrimination and stigmatization; and
To empower and support LGBTI communities, organizations and individuals in Asia, while encouraging community building and networking.
One of ILGA Asia’s strategic objectives is making a database for strategic information and knowledge sharing and building on SOGIESC issues in Asia. So far, we have been using our online channels to promote our work and share information and knowledge to our members and LGBTI communities in the region.
Key responsibilities
Research and clip news from the region for ILGA Asia’s newsletters
Write, edit or proofread website articles and newsletter, social media copy or other communication outputs
Assist the Communications Officer in the development of campaigns - including in the production of visual materials (infographics, videos and more)
Create and maintain an archive of media coverage of ILGA Asia in forms of website links, screenshots, newspaper clippings, and audio-visual materials etc.
Qualifications
Previous experience, either as a volunteer or an employee, in an LGBTI organization or nonprofit sector, and/or undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, journalism, or another related field. (Current students can also apply for this position)
Bachelor degree in Social Sciences; a degree in Journalism or Media and Communications is preferred
Strong writing skills in English is a requirement; proficiency in 1 or 2 other Asian languages is an asset
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media. Basic knowledge of using at least 1 graphic design software is an advantage;
The position is open to people of all gender identities, sexual orientations or sex characteristics; those who identify as a lesbian or bisexual woman, trans person or intersex person are strongly encouraged to apply
Internship conditions
The intern will work from their current location.
The exact working hours and dates can be flexible, but a candidate should be available to work full-time (37.5 hours/week).
The intern will receive an honorarium of 500 USD a month for the duration of their internship.
The intern will be recognized in all publications and activities that they are contributing to.
