Donate Now: Emergency support for LGBT+ people in Afghanistan

ILGA Asia and All Out have launched a fundraising campaign to provide Emergency support for LGBT+ people in Afghanistan. Here is a message from Henry Koh, our Executive Director on why our work is important and how you can contribute.

Hello,

We're facing a terrifying emergency. Ever since the Taliban took over in Afghanistan, LGBT+ people in the country risk being hunted down and murdered.

Under Taliban rule, homosexuality continues to be punishable by death.

ILGA Asia has launched an emergency program to bring urgent aid to LGBT+ people we have identified to be at extreme risk and trapped in Afghanistan. Getting safely relocated is incredibly challenging and can take a very long time. Right now, we have a list of people who are just stuck, waiting in fear.

The crisis is so monumental and we're struggling to find enough resources to respond.

That's why we're partnering with All Out to raise the funds needed to help keep these people safe in Afghanistan while they wait to be resettled.

Can you donate to help provide urgent aid to LGBT+ Afghans?

Your gift today will pay for food, shelter, medication, and other emergency resources for at least the next month for 29 LGBT+ people we've identified who are trapped in Afghanistan.

The LGBT+ people I am in contact with in Afghanistan are living extremely isolated lives, many fearful to even leave their homes. I've personally heard stories from people who have been physically abused by the Taliban as well as their family members.

I've heard from those who are experiencing critical physical and mental health issues. And from people who are not properly clothed or fed. Some are on the run, some are hiding, and some have attempted to take their own lives. But the thing that unites everyone who we are in contact with is pure, raw fear of being killed under this regime because they are LGBT+.

The ultimate goal is of course to get these people out of Afghanistan, to a safer country. That's why we're also working hard with international partners to establish safe passage for Afghan LGBT+ people at risk.

But that takes time, and many people need help NOW.

Please, donate today to help LGBT+ people in Afghanistan stay safe. This is a critical and urgent moment.

In solidarity,

Henry Koh
Executive Director, ILGA Asia
