ILGA Asia/SogiCampaigns – Applications Open for Training on Public Campaigns 2024

ILGA Asia and SogiCampaigns are delighted to announce the call for applications among LGBTIQ+ community based organizations (CBO) and groups in Asia region (representatives of CBOs based in West Asia region are highly encouraged) to register for the third edition of the campaign training co-organized by ILGA Asia and Campaigns. This year’s campaign training consists of 3-week self-learning online sessions in June, 2024 followed by fully funded in-person training & workshops in Bangkok, Thailand between 3-5 July, 2024.

Participants will have an opportunity to work with facilitators to receive feedback on their campaign proposals, as well as an opportunity to build a network and share their experience with other participants from the region.

Upon successful completion of the training, selected participants will receive technical and financial support (around USD$2,000-USD$3,000) for implementation of their proposed campaigns applying the knowledge and skills they gained during the training. 

Eligibility: 

  • The applicant must be a representative (staff member, employee etc…) of LGBTIQ+ community based organizations or groups in Asia region working towards achieving equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex community with previous experience of implementing at least 1 campaign on LGBTIQ+ rights. Applicants intending to execute campaign activities on eliminating conversion therapy practices will be given preference.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English since the fellowship is conducted in the given language.
  • Applicants must have obtained prior approval of their relevant management/supervisor (i.e recommendation letter) within the structure/organization supporting their full participation in the program.

Omair Paul is the Program Manager at ILGA Asia. He joins the team with almost a decade of UN advocacy experience, previously serving as the UN Representative for Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) since 2014. He led the organisation’s UN advocacy strategy and campaigns, represented MPV in various high-level UN meetings & processes, and forged working relationships with diplomats, UN agencies, and civil society organisations (CSOs) and networks.

He focuses on countering fundamentalist religious ideologies and protecting the rights to free expression, freedom of religion and belief, and the economic and social rights of women, girls, and ethnic, religious, and SOGIESC minorities in Muslim societies.
