Developed by Our Community of Practice members, in collaboration with the Power of Pride MEL Working Group, this workbook is designed primarily for LGBTIQA+ groups and organizations. It also provides valuable guidance for cisgender individuals and institutions seeking to build a world that fully includes and affirms LGBTIQA+ communities.
Whether you are a queer or trans activist, facilitator, ally, or organizational leader, this resource offers tools to deepen understanding, encourage critical reflection, and strengthen your capacity to foster inclusive leadership, sustainable work practices, and preparedness for socio-political risks. Alongside this workbook, we have also produced a short video that highlights the importance of collective action in strengthening and sustaining LGBTIQ movements.
By the end of this workbook, you will be able to:
Design tailored organizational plans that align with your context, goals, and long-term strategies, applying the workbook’s tools to strengthen sustainable, transformative change.
Analyze and respond to shifting socio-political environments, including threats shaped by colonial legacies, religious conservatism, and shrinking civic spaces that impact LGBTIQA+ movements.
Cultivate inclusive, equitable leadership practices that center marginalized voices, challenge power hierarchies, and promote participatory governance and organizational accountability.
Develop systems for inclusive decision-making, mutual respect, and effective feedback mechanisms to support collective growth within LGBTIQA+ organizations.
Understand the political economy of aid and design community-aligned, rights-based, and diversified resource mobilization strategies that strengthen organizational autonomy and resilience.
Recognize and address burnout, trauma, and emotional labor by embedding care, healing justice, and well-being into policies, practices, and leadership development.
Build organizational capacity for safety and risk preparedness, including identifying and responding to anti-rights pushbacks, repression, and legal restrictions through risk analysis, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement.
