ILGA Asia is looking for a Research Intern for a period of six months to work with the Senior Research and Policy Officer on several ongoing projects relating to LGBTIQ rights in Asia.

Title: Research Intern (Full-time) 

Duty station: home-based (remote working); the intern must have a reliable internet connection and be willing to work across Bangkok/New Delhi time zones
Languages Required: English

Expected duration: 6 months

Compensation: 17000 Thai Baht per month

Background

ILGA Asia is the Asian Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, representing East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Asia. We seek to promote universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence based on SOGIESC in Asia, to promote access to justice of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression and sex characteristic, and to empower and support LGBTIQ communities, organizations and individuals in Asia, while encouraging community building and networking. The research and policy team at ILGA Asia works on several projects, cutting across international human rights law, policy and strategy, including projects involving desk research, analysis, development of advocacy tools and strategies, training, fact-finding, field-work, monitoring, report writing and press statements.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to ongoing research projects through desk research, coordination and liaising, and other tasks assigned by the supervisor

  • Conduct research for and draft of research reports, UN submissions, press statements and policy briefs on various thematic areas



Requirements and Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law, social sciences, human rights or a related field is required, while a Master’s degree is an asset.

  • Candidates pursuing a Master’s degree or a PhD in a related field are also welcome to apply.

  • Knowledge and experience of LGBTIQ human rights, movement building, and legal/political landscape in Asia are strongly preferred

  • Proven track record of relevant working experience on LGBTIQ rights in the Asia region is a must.

  • Strong research skills, command of the English language and an eye for detail.

  • Proficiency in drafting briefing notes, press statements, and other documents, in line with ILGA Asia’s mission and objectives

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task and work with efficiency
