ILGA Asia shares that Shane Bhatla has stepped down from his role as Disability Representative Board Member on the ILGA Asia Executive Board.
ILGA Asia extend our heartfelt thanks to Shane for his dedication, care, and meaningful contributions to ILGA Asia and the broader LGBTIQ+ movement across Asia. Shane stepped down from the Board in August 2025, citing ongoing governance concerns that he has raised with the Board and membership as the reason for his resignation.
Throughout his time on the Executive Board, Shane played an important role in strengthening disability inclusion and advancing an intersectional approach to equality, helping ensure that the voices and experiences of persons with disabilities were better represented within regional advocacy spaces.
Shane’s commitment, insight, and principled leadership have enriched ILGA Asia’s work and collective vision. We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and thoughtfulness he brought to the organisation.
As Shane continues his journey as an independent activist and GEDSI consultant, we wish him every success in his ongoing work. ILGA Asia remains appreciative of Shane’s contributions and looks forward to continued solidarity in advancing inclusive human rights movements across the region.
