Our ED speaks on queer representation on Strength and Solidarity

Our ED speaks on queer representation on Strength and Solidarity

4 February 2021

On 20 January 2022, our Executive Director Henry Koh was featured on a podcast episode of the Symposium on Strength & Solidarity where they shared about the representation of queer people in Malaysia, and the challenges growing as a queer person in a small town, with the only solace to them being music.

Befittingly, Henry shares a moving poem written & performed by the Malaysian singer-songwriter Ratu Yousei from Jejaka, which reclaims a traditionally conservative form of poetry known as a “sajak”, to powerfully illustrate the importance of seeing past stereotypes and being “a bridge to those #LGBTI who finally listen, to understand that we are equal human beings in the community.” 🌈
