30 December 2021
Hello, Subscriber!
Warm greetings from ILGA Asia π
Recently, on #HumanRightsDay, we took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank the dedicated human rights #changemakers who have been supporting us β our members, community & regional representatives, queer activists, partners, and allies β whose efforts, voices, and sacrifices have spoken, fought and advocated for this inherent truth, βLGBTIQ rights are human rights!β β
Your solidarity & participation is important to us, which is why weβre improving how we keep you in the loop on updates from ILGA Asia and our members, as well as other important news & opportunities in the region. And you might have noticed already, our newsletter now has a new look (we hope you like it!).
2021 has been a year of transition for ILGA Asia, despite the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic; affecting some more than others. A total of 81,069 LGBTIQ individuals β including women, transgender persons, the working class, older persons & others β were supported by organisations through ILGA Asiaβs COVID-19 Humanitarian Grant Assistance Program.
This year, your support alone has enabled us to enhance our ongoing commitment to bringing diverse queer communities closer, through digital advocacy campaigns such as our inaugural #TDORChatrooms series, featuring trans & non-binary activists & members from across East, West, South & Southeast Asia; and #16DaysofActivism to End Gender-Based Violence among LBTQ women, in collaboration with MOSAIC-MENA.
Your contributions have also enabled us to launch our podcast on LGBT & Faith with the Salzburg Global Seminar; establish multiple platforms for strategic information & knowledge sharing via a groundbreaking data-driven research project on SOGIESC-developments and challenges in 16 Asian countries; and enable accessibility of humanitarian aid to LGBTI communities living in peril by employing a Special Program in response to the ongoing human rights violations in Afghanistan.
As we usher in 2022, we look forward to your continuing and growing support, as ILGA Asia aims to foster collective actions in ensuring growth and opportunities for LGBTI activists across all sectors and localities, and create aspirational spaces to enact solidarity and model effective advocacy for emerging LGBTI leaders in Asia. π³οΈβππ³οΈββ§οΈ
